5th Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival held in Athens on 8-9 July 2017

The 5th Bollywood Festival and Multicultural Dance Festival For the 5th consecutive year, the Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival was successfully staged at the Historical Dora Stratou Theatre on the Filopappou Hill, flooded with moonlight, reverberating with music, dance and the thunderous ovation from a fully-packed audience. The scintillating performances created an emotionally charged atmosphere in Dora Stratou's theater with evocations of faraway culture, its bright attire and the lavish color of its generously amplified music. The Festival commenced with a wonderful Opening Party followed by a wide variety of Dance workshops, spread over the weekend, from renowned artists from Greece and abroad. One of the highlights of this year’s festival was the introduction of the new solo categories “Bollywood Star Rising Star of the Year” for amateur and “Bollywood Star of the Year” for professional dancers along with group category “Bollywood Group of the Year” at 4th International Bollywood Dance Competition organized by Oriental Expression Awards. The major attraction was the two spectacular shows on Saturday and Sunday attended by the Greek population, tourists, Diplomats and various representatives of Media. The audience also had the chance to visit the Mini Bazaar of the festival and try Indian food at the theater premises. The festival presented internationally renowned dancers, teachers and choreographers who taught various workshops and enthralled the audience with their performances. These include Indian artists Dr. Tina Tambe (Kathak), Prasanti Jena (Odissi), Daniel Paul and Sumon Rudra (Bollywood), as well as great dance groups from Greece, Finland, and France among others. Anna Dimitratou, the founder of 1st Bollywood Dance Academy Greece and Director of Artistic Studio Oriental Expression along with her team of dancers and our guest artists, presented some highly energetic and colorful choreography of Indian dance forms. The festival highlighted its Multicultural essence by presenting the audience a plethora of various dance styles ranging from traditional Greek dances to Hawaiian Hula and Middle-eastern Oriental and Tribal dance among others. High-profile guests, such as H.E. Ms. M. Manimekalai, the Ambassadress of India to Greece, Dr. Alkis Raftis, President of the International Dance Council (CID-UNESCO), Mr. Nikolas Vafiadis reputed journalist and correspondent of channel Ant1 among others honored the Festival with their presence. The organizers acknowledged the support of the sponsors, the Ambassadress and Indian Embassy and Indo-Hellenic association (ELLINEPA) , the participants – Teachers, Choreographers and dancers from all over the world, as most importantly the tireless Volunteers who gave their invaluable efforts to all Events of the Festival. Like all good things, this celebration of Culture, Music and Dance came to an end, leaving behind beautiful memories and great anticipation and excitement for the 6th Bollywood & Multicultural Dance Festival in summer 2018.
