Indian infrastructure company bags contract for airport in Greece

            India’s GMR Infrastructure Limited, in a joint venture with GEK TERNA of Greece, has bagged the contract for building an airport at Katseli on Crete Island.  GMR was the sole bidder for the contract which was awarded on 30 May 2017.

            GMR Group is the developer and operator of two of India’s busiest airports in Delhi and Hyderabad.  The company also operates the Mactan Cebu International Airport in Philippines, Maldives airport, etc.

            The airport will be built via a private-public partnership.  Cost of construction is estimated at 480 million euros, with the State having 46% stake at a cost of 180 million euros.  The total investment is 850 million euros.

Construction is expected to start on the project in early 2018.
