Major Recent Decisions of the Government of India

Details of major recent decisions of the government for suitable dissemination by Missions and Posts may be seen below:

 

A. LTC Cash Voucher Scheme:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on 12 October 2020, announced LTC Cash Voucher Scheme. Under the scheme, cash payment would be provided to employees in lieu of one LTC during 2018-21, in which full payment on Leave encashment and tax-free payment of LTC fare in 3 flat-rate slabs depending on class of entitlement will be given. The Finance Minister in her remarks conveyed that the savings of government and organized sector employees have increased and it is important to incentivize such people to boost demand for the benefit of the less fortunate. It is expected that the LTC Cash Voucher Scheme would generate additional consumer demand in the range of  28,000 crore. B. Cabinet decisions:

The Cabinet today approved various proposals / schemes. Relevant ones are provided below:

(i) STARS Project:

The Cabinet has approved the World Bank supported Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States (STARS) project. The total project cost is Rs 5718 crore with the financial support of World Bank amounting to US$ 500 million. The project means to provide quality education. (ii) Special Package for UT of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission

 The Cabinet approved Special Package worth INR 520 crore in the UTs of J&K and Ladakh for a period of five years till FY 2023-24 and ensure funding of DeendayalAntyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). The Cabinet approval is in line with Government of India's aim to universalize all centrally sponsored beneficiary-oriented schemes in the UTs of J&K and Ladakh in a time bound manner. The programme aims at eliminating rural poverty through promotion of multiple livelihoods for the rural poor households across the country. The Press Release by PIB is seen below:
